Going Through a Creative Block
As most artists, I go through a yearly artist block and this is how I find the drive needed to reboot my inspiration. .
In January 2021 I took a trip across Northern California. What an amazing experience as it was my first time on that coast, I was mesmerized by its landscapes, long roads and endless mountains. There was so much driving in between each location I visited, that all there was to do was to ponder on life, family, friends and work. How many things can be enhanced and changed to continue the pursuit for happiness.
The first stop was Yosemite, CA. National Park. This place is breathtaking and as a human it makes you realize how miniscule we really are.
There’s nothing like escaping into nature and completely surrendering to the elements and all the challenges it brings, You have to be alert, aware of the environment and be in the moment.
Inspiration :
There’s nothing that compares to the sound of birds and other wild animals when you’re in their environment. This is where I regain my inspiration and the clarity needed, walking and being very vigilant of my surroundings, noticing everything from the roots, rock formations, water streams, plants and all sorts of textures. This is where bringing a camera / phone is essential and capturing shots of all these things that fascinate me. All of these I can use later on for painting, tattoos or other artwork projects. Look for inspiration, it’s everywhere.
Physical work :
Apart from its beauty, the one thing you will notice after a day of hiking is coming to a complete exhaustion. Where you’re body starts to give up and that inner voice says to take a break or simply let’s turn around. But there’s something magical when that happens , we can listen to that voice or simply learn to have control over it. Getting to that point is difficult but pushing that threshold is the goal.
Here you may have a calm mind that will help compartmentalize and visualize new ideas.
Conclusion:
Get up, go for a walk at the park / nature if you can’t take a trip. Our mental health is key for our creative juices to flow. Stay active and be aware of your surroundings as it will help you find your inspiration.
